The Alemany Island Beautification Project was awarded the Best Community Challenge Grant Project at the 2011 NEN Awards for its role as a vessel for community building and as an aesthetic component to the communities merchant corridor. The project includes the painting of the overhanging freeway columns and the addition of a central garden that will line the roadway leading into the neighborhood.
